There are movies you read the title for and think it’s something from Tropic Thunder (2008) (meaning a fake movie or a movie within another movie) and not something that could possibly exist. Then there are movies like Movie 43 (2013) and Valentine’s Day (2010) that are movies which could also fall into the same category. Director Michael Stasko (Boys vs. Girls), along with co-writers Jakob Skryzpa (Your Money’s No Good Here) and Alex Forman (Your Money’s No Good Here), does the former and delivers something so ingeniously entertaining, silly, and fun with Vampire Zombies… from Space! (2024) that it’s hard not to have a smile on your face for the entire near-100-minute running time. After all, with all the chaos in the world and madness, sometimes we just need a silly, schlocky (complimentary) vampire zombie movie, and this time they’re from space!

The movie focuses on the small town of Marlow as it is invaded by Dracula from Space! (Craig Gloster). No one in the town of Marlow believes this is really happening except for one lone woman, Mary (Jessica Antovski), as she tries to convince the town that they’re under attack from Dracula from Space! Mary manages to get some people on board including the local police chief, Ed Clarke (Andrew Bee), despite his ineptitude. Colonel Harlan Talbit (Simon Reynolds) brings the military in to fight the vampire zombies. But the only one who seems capable of actually defeating space Dracula and his horde of the undead is Wallace (Rashaun Baldeo), a former cop. Overall, the battle between Space Dracula and his zombies versus the residents of Marlow and the military is a ‘50s/‘60s direct-to-tv flick of the week, but, in 2026, this plays as a refreshing and entertaining watch that would be a riveting hit at the local old school theatre on a Saturday night.

With Blu-ray releases of low budget movies, it is important to note that they aren’t huge blockbusters that have endless amounts of money behind them to get a physical release. So, the fact that we have a physical release is a win in the first place. There is no slipcover, so first or fourth pressing won’t matter for collectors. There is no rush to get the movie other than the off chance it does go out of print and then is considered harder to find. However, with a smaller independent movie, it is always nice to see some special features on a release and it be something more than just a sizzle reel. Granted, there is a sizzle reel and promotional clips and deleted scenes, but there’s also an audio commentary. While an audio commentary may seem standard, it is not always something that is included on releases, so the creatives behind Vampire Zombies… from Space! giving audiences that extra little tidbit is a nice treat. The commentary is with director and writers Mike Stasko, Jakob Skryzpa, and Alex Forman, and includes additional credits including the 2nd AD, producers, writers, and even actors. Having a commentary track from people who were involved in all aspects of the film is truly something interesting and provides more insight than just having a principal actor and or director.

When it comes to the quality of the Blu-ray disk itself, it looks great. Granted it is a release from the 2020s and the movie is shot with modern technology, but it kept the aesthetics of the ‘50s and ‘60s well, making it look like it’s just a restoration of something that was genuinely made for tv in the ‘60s with the likes of Bela Lugosi (Dracula; The Black Cat). There is a lot of fun and havoc to be had with Vampire Zombies… from Space!, so gather a bunch of your friends, a big bowl of popcorn, and enjoy the ‘50s/‘60s monster cheese fest that will surely elicit joy!
