The term “mondo” is born from the Italian word for “world” and came to apply to psychedelic, mockumentary-type films made from the late ‘50s to the early ‘80s which explored taboo subjects like sex, racism, ethnocentrism, death, and more. In 1988, director Harvey Keith released the documentary Mondo New York and now it’s been remastered and released with an accompanying CD. It’s now out for wider public consumption as of December 19th as part of the MVD Rewind Collection.
