You may have noticed that my film reviews stopped back in May. Between travel, holidays, and the job hunt, movie going has fallen by the wayside. It doesn’t help either that a lot of recent releases have been all bluster and no substance.
So, in lieu of any exciting films to review, I’ve decided to take a page from Roger Ebert and head to my Netflix Instant Queue. He frequently features or reviews movies available on Netflix, and I’ve got films that have been in my queue for more than a year. This week, that changes. Part writing assignment, part queue cleaner, part time killer – I’m going to watch and review at least one movie from my queue each day for the rest of the week. If I dig it, I may continue to do so until either I a) pare done the queue, b) get distracted, or c) a better film option comes along (TDKR, anyone?). Heck, I may even throw in a disc review just for good measure.

I’ll do my best to pepper in some more technological/cultural relevant pieces, but this seems like a fun project to do right now. Especially since I won’t be going on any fun tropical journeys for awhile more.

Personal Recommendation for Reader Viewing:
Plot: When an enigmatic drifter and an obsessive Japanese fighter make their way to a town run by a cruel crime boss, the strangers combine their martial arts skills to take on the powerful crook in this visually innovative, genre-bending action film.

First introduced to this film at the 2011 Actionfest in Asheville, NC, I haven’t stopped watching it. It’s an amazing mix of stage play, martial arts action, and comedy that you wouldn’t think would mesh well, but does. It’s available on both disc and Netflix Instant, so there is no reason not to see it.

Narrator: Life, every man holds dear. But the dear man holds honor far more precious than dear life. Especially if that man happens to be Japanese.

Narrator: Revenge is an act of style. For all practical matters, no one is known to come back from the dead after being avenged in the name of justice.
